The Yearly Round Up, Owning 2018 & The 12 Year Long Survey

I remember starting this tradition in the year of 06- 07, a year after I had started blogging, being under the stairs where my first ever desktop sat peacefully. I was 16 back then and dial up internet was free from 2:00- 7:00 am and I never wanted to miss the first day of the year so I decided back then, to try to stay up for as long as I could every 1st of the year that came. In an attempt to keep myself busy, I eagerly searched the interwebs for a new year survey because 1. I was obsessed with surveys (as I still am) and 2. it was relevant. 11 years later, I no longer run to my laptop to entertain myself from trying to stay awake on the most festive of eves instead, I come home because this is where I feel safe, this is where I pour out my dreams; aspirations; accomplishments & failures and most of all because writing to you has become such a huge part of me.

If you are reading this, thank you for experiencing this with me. Here are the links to my previous yearly posts which you may laugh, cry, cringe and feel indifferent about- don’t worry, that’s ok, we share the same emotions. It’s interesting to see how different my answers change from year to year and I am happy to share these parts of me with all of you. Here they are:

2006-72007-82008-9|  2009- 10 2010- 112011- 122012- 13|  2013- 142014- 152016- 17

And so it begins!

1. Will you be looking for a new job?

Last year I entered 2017 with very little expectations. I had no plans, no dreams- just the hope that something interesting would happen. I took 2017 as my year of figuring out what I really wanted to do because I never want to look back at a missed opportunity knowing that I never tried. Growing up I always said I wanted to be an actress so in 2017, I tried it out and was able to get a non speaking role for Adober’s original series, Unspoken Rules which has gathered over 3 million views on Facebook. I also auditioned for an indie movie, worked in a commercial (which I mistakenly thought was my first but was actually not)- I’ve explored the world and industry of film and acting and am confident to say that if the opportunity comes in 2018, I would willfully take it head on. I dream of writing something beautiful one day and working in production and what not- we’ll see.

I took on more blogging and vlogging projects last year, which I realized is my true passion. I have been lucky in this industry to have been given the opportunity to take on great projects and although I often deal with your everyday entitled, stuck up millennial, I have also been blessed with the abilities to choose the right people and detach myself from the asses so despite all the drama the world of “influencers” and their constant fight for popularity, I have remained sane and immune.

In all these endevours, plus working online, I was able to balance and have time to do more. I was still bored, I was craving for more creative outlets and this is how my podcast, IssaTalks started. It was a running idea which I jumped into head on and just a few months in, I was able to represent the Philippines’ (for the first time) during International Podcast day and it’s just been an awesome time since then.

But it still wasn’t enough. I still craved for more and this is how H&S Clothing came into play. H&S Clothing is not anything amazing, it’s simply me taking over our family business, the business that was able to put me and 2 other siblings through college while providing us with a good life and in 2018, I’m going to work extra hard to provide for my 1st family and eventually for my own.

2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?

No, because we’re ENGAGED!

3. New house?

Looking and hoping while having severe separation anxiety from the thought of leaving our little haven. I love it here.

4. What will you do different in 18?

Definitely a huge change in lifestyle choices. It’s not just about me at this point, as weird as it is to say, it’s about our future children and trying to live as long as possible to see them grow up while living a full life with our future family.

omg. am I seriously saying these things??

5. New Years’ resolutions?

To stop smoking, to save money and to lose weight.

6. What will you not be doing in 2018?

Hopefully bankrupt.

7. Any trips planned?

Manila, anywhere we can CAMP/ GLAMP, hoping for Hong Kong/ Japan. Dreaming of going back to the motherland.

8. Wedding plans?

This is so weird but yes. A big fat YES!

9. Major thing on your calendar?

Wedding planning, living situation planning, baby planning, businesses and the one million things I intend to do with my life.

10. What can’t you wait for?

Honestly, I don’t know. As much as I enjoy the thought of being married to Paolo, it’s not necessarily something I absolutely cannot wait for simply because I want to enjoy being engaged, planning the wedding and the last few moments we have before trying to start our own family. But I am definitely excited to have human babies and fur babies and scaley babies.

11. What would you like to see happen differently?

2017 was the best because I came into it with very little expectations which I think was the best thing I ever did so I’d like to keep doing this, as much as possible from now on.

12. What about you will you be changing?

Can I please be skinny this year?

Oh, my work ethic.

13. What happened in 2017 that you didn’t think would ever happen?

Moving into our beautiful home with Paolo (twice), starting a podcast, taking over a business, being in various ads, getting engaged and making more friends despite saying that I no longer needed any.

14. Will you be nice to the people you care about?

Yes, absolutely!

15. Will you dress differently this year than you did in 2017?

I cannot say.

16. Will you start or quit smoking?

Quit. It’s funny because on this survey you can trace the moments I decided to start followed by the many years I’ve decided to quit but PLEASE LET THIS BE THE YEAR. FOR OUR CHILDREN!

17. Will you better your relationship with your family?

I will be acquiring a new family soon and be starting our own. It’s always been about family and it will be about family.

18. Will you do charity work?

By all means, yes.

19. Will you go to bars?

Hopefully not as much but enough to preserve the youth.

20. Will you be nice to people you don’t know?

I have always.

21. Do you expect 2018 to be a good year for you?

Of course.

22. How much did you change from this time ‘til now?

A lot and hardly at all.

23. Do you plan have on having a child?

If not this year then definitely the next. We want furry children!!!

24. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with?

Most likely. But I’ll be honest, I would really like to stop talking to a few people.

25. Major lifestyle changes?

Lots. And lots. and lots!

26. Will you be moving?

We’ve been looking for a forever home for about a year now but until it happens, we’re perfectly fine in our little home. It feels so big though.

27. What will you make sure doesn’t happen in 2018?

Bankruptcy and family feuds.

28. What are your New Year’us Eve plans?

Well spent with family. 🙂 All our families know now and nobody contested so I’m happy, Paolo is happy, the whole world is happy. We also stayed up til 3 and then passed out.

29. Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?

Paolo. For the rest of my life.?

30. One wish for 2018?

For life to happen the way it was meant to happen. And also for things to not cost so much or for us to make more money to be able to afford them!

May you all have a wonderful 2018 and the years to follow. Thank you so much for all the love and support you have given me throughout the years. 13 long years of whoring myself on the internet- how would’ve thought?

It’s been awesome, fam!

To many more! <3

Taipei Fashion Diary & Tips For Dressing Up On Vacation

I am finally coming to a close with our Taipei adventures and I would like to do so with a simple run through of the outfits I was able to document while we were there.

I tried to be as versatile with my outfits as I could, considering that we weren’t quite sure of how the weather would be while visiting. The forecasts said it would be sunny and rainy so that kind of left me in a pickle. Nevertheless, I made it out alive and with ootds to spare.

Enjoy!

Beret: Cotton On| Tshirt: fashion bazaar| Metallic pleated skirt: H&M| Fishnet socks: Forever21| Sneakers: Vans

Backpacks: Pop District Bazaar

Body suit & trousers: Forever 21/ pants| Glasses: Raohe Night Market

Top & Cover Up: Metro Department Store| Shorts: Uniqlo| Shades: Rayban

Top: Metro Department Store| Trousers: Vero Moda

Top: GU| Jogging pants: Adidas

Here are some tips to keep in mind when packing and dressing for your trips:

1. Create your itinerary BEFORE packing

2. Do NOT pack cheap sneakers.
I made the mistake of packing P250.00 department store sneakers because they matched my outfits more than walking shoes did. BIG MISTAKE. Comfort over style lagi.

3. If the weather is iffy (jumping between sunny & rain showers), just be safe and pack a light sweater or cover up.

4. You may think a plastic poncho is cute but it’s hot in there.

5. Don’t under pack thinking “I’ll buy something there”. Instead pack around 2 extra outfits.
I initially thought I would under pack so I had a reason to shop but the outfits you wear when travelling and when you get home are completely different so I wouldn’t suggest it. I did end up wearing a shirt I bought at GU but that’s only because I wanted to match the graffiti wall outside our building. Other than that, I bought clothes that I wanted to wear to events and not something I most likely wouldn’t wear when I got home.

What are your dressing/ packing tips when on vacay?

Issa P.

KJM Cosmetics Lip & Cheek Tint Vlog & Blog Reaction

I’m a little late (as I always am) when it comes to make up trends but the KJM Cosmetics Lip & Cheek tint was something I honestly paid very little attention to since its first appearance in Cebu early this year. Sure, I saw it on racks on racks on racks whenever I went shopping but I never really bothered to ask what the big deal was nor did I care to try it out. In my head I thought to myself that, “it was just another lip and cheek tint” and that tints were sooo high school (and college) but I was surprisingly wrong. Lip and cheek tints are very much real, my friends!

What is KJM Cosmetics Lip & Cheek tint?

I tried researching it but their official website doesn’t really answer any real questions like, “why are they so famous?” and “what are they made of?” but Kimpossibly Gorgeous’ raves that it’s a Filipino brand and continues on her own review with an ecstatic yey for Pinoy Pride. Yey from me too!

My supplier and the beloved sponsor of this post, Let’s Stylize, did mention though that the products are organic and therefore are safe to consume (if you like to consume lip tint?).

anyways.

As requested, I pulled out 5/ 10 shades that Let’s Stylize has to offer and this week, I have made it my sole purpose to try out, test and share my sentiments with my wonderful readers about what I think about the KJM Cosmetics Lip & Cheek tint.

https://www.facebook.com/issapleasetalks/videos/1491055180989191/

I DID A FACEBOOK LIVE!

If you haven’t gotten around to watching the vlog, here’s a run through of the video:

What makes a good lip and cheek tint?
I thought long and hard (lol, jk, I used common sense) and thought about what comprised a good/ decent tint and came to the conclusion that it takes the factors: consistency, longevity and price point.

Consistency. The tint is light weight but much to my dismay, is oil based. Unfortunately for me, I hate oil and I quickly found out in the video that oil tends to spill on to your teeth if you’re not careful and will tint your teeth, as well. Although, I wouldn’t really think of this as a bad thing because you can always allow the tint to dry or dab the tint in portions before smacking your lips together. Either route, the oil dries up and you’re not left in this predicament for too long.

Longevity. You obviously want your tint to last long because who likes constantly reapplying make up anyways? I certainly don’t! Reviews say that this products lasts up from 3- 6 hours, depending on how often you wet your lips and I definitely wanted to put this to the test or… tests, rather!

EXPERIMENT NO. 1: The wet wipe test

EXPERIMENT NO. 2: The water test

EXPERIMENT NO. 3: The food test

EXPERIMENT NO. 4: The kissing test

EXPERIMENT NO. 5: The drop test (not a part of longevity but let’s throw it in there anyways!)

If you want to see the results… please watch the video. And while you’re at it, like, SUBSCRIBE & leave some love in the comments section below 😀

Price Point. A bottle of this tint will cost you about P150.00 and is said to last you a looong time (according to Youtube reviews). I’d say, it’s a pretty penny to pay and I definitely think it hits the sweet spot, price-wise.

 Here are some swatches:

BARE FACE

Bittersweet Magenta (on cheeks only)

Bittersweet Magenta (on cheeks & lips)

Vibe
See what I meant by it going on your teeth!

Fused

Girl Talk

Tango

Conclusion.
Although I really did have an issue with it being oil based, it’s pretty forgivable and since shooting this video, I have incorporated the tint in my daily make up routine.

I could tell you all about it, really. But I’d rather you watch the video so please, do me the honors!! <3

That’s all that I have for today, dear friends and beloved readers!

If you want to get your own KJM Lip & Cheek Tints, feel free to message Let’s Stylize or drop by your nearest Emporium concept store.

Let me know if you enjoyed my beauty review and if there’s anything you’d fancy I try out and experiment on again.

Til the next,

How To Style: Pastel On Pastel & Fluffy Flats

If you’re wondering when you’re ever going to see me wear these fluffy flats, which I fondly call “floofers”again, the answer is never and I would like to thank my friends’ dog, Amber, for that. Apparently in the eyes of a Siberian Husky, floofers look like yummy balls of goodness and well… you guys can put 2 and 2 together and figure out what happened. Don’t worry, I kept the flats but the floofs are unsave-able. I cannot bring myself to dispose of perfect good shoes so I’m still trying to figure out a way to salvage them! You’ll see what I turn it into in a blog post, obviously.

Pastel and neutral tones have been a recurring trend over the last couple of years but according to my research, it really blew up in 2017. I generally like to stay away from trends until the very last minute (unless it’s really cute- like my floofs) but when you’re shopping and all you see are pastel colored everything’s… you end up putting things in your cart. Next thing I knew, I made a complete outfit out of it!

I wouldn’t say that I am obsessed with this trend mostly because it’s seems a tad bit too soft and feminine for my taste but it’s a good look for casual days full of chores and when you don’t have time to iron. (sorry for the wrinkles) I find pastel colors a bit dull so I paired them with my fluffy flats to make my look stand out. Also, I didn’t want people to focus too much on that fact that I was wearing pink so to the feet I directed them!

Where can I buy floofs?

TREND ALERT! Tinted Shades & Gingham

I believe it is safe to say that 90’s fashion has officially made a comeback!!! I think I’ve said this already somewhere on this site but in case you are new here, let me say it again: THE 90’S ARE BACK!

I realize that there are two sides to this flashback with the first point being: wasn’t the 90’s fashion kinda tacky? and secondly… well, that’s the only point I can think of right now. But who cares? I don’t!

I was born and raised in the 90’s and though some of the styles are a little bit over the top e.g. holo skirts and neon everything, I grew up spending hours browsing through glossy pages of magazines imagining of one day being able to pull off those styles… and that time is now!

L_U_E_U_R sent me a package with this gingham crop top and pink tinted shades and I was shookt! Here’s how I wore it:

The rose tinted shades and gingham were already pretty bold statements so I decided to mute it out by just pairing it with some denim jeans. For footwear, I would top this look off with some white Keds (if I had any!)

I’ve got a whole lot of OOTDS I cannot wait to share with you all- I’ve just been a bit busy with work and spending time with family. Please bear with me, I love you all!

xx,

Issa <3

No Bathing Matter- My No Ligo Look ?

We’ve all been there, right? You know, days when you just had to pull yourself out of bed and didn’t have the time to shower? No? Ok then, that’s just me.

Here’s my situation: I am extremely kandingun aka in english, scared shitless of cold water. I only function in warm water but we haven’t gotten around to setting up our heater yet so I’ve had to succumb to ice cold baths ’til godknowswhen. So some days, like this day, when I have to wake up a little earlier than I usually do and bathing is purely optional (I bathed the night before OKAYYY), then I’ll just throw on something cute and head on out.

I was dragged to a meeting I didn’t have to be at with the promise of food and grocery shopping after. I simply could not resist the thought of hash browns and a replenished pantry so, yeah.

When you go out batheless, the last thing you want to do is state the obvious so a chic outfit is always necessary but at the same time, you don’t want to try too much. If you weren’t in the mood to shower, what makes you think you’re in the mood to actually dress up?

I just threw on a light brown dress from Let’s Stylize and an over sized kimono paired off with over-sized glasses (to hide my make- upless face) and some mules I got from ParisianSee, I look like I actually tried. My fashion tip: Keep a statement kimono, cover up, jacket on hand to spice up an outfit. I do it all the time!

What do you think of this look?
