Tech Review (Blog & Vlog): P9,990.00 Oppo A83 Smart Selfie First Impressions

Oppo’s first release for the year 2018 is finally out and not just with a sizzle but with a big, bad bang!

Retailing at only P9,990.00, the Oppo A83 Smart Selfie is an affordable mobile phone that offers all the features of any high end phone for a quarter of the price.

Check out its key specs:

With features like AI Beauty Technology, a 5.7″ full HD screen, 3 GB RAM + octa- core CPU, 3180 mAh battery life, dual sim and expandable memory options it makes you wonder, what else is this phone capable of doing?

Box contents: Silicone case, headphones, micro USB 2.0 charger, adaptor, cellphone unit with tampered glass already attached & manuals (not in photo)

FIRST IMPRESSION:

SIZE. Being a fan of large screens, I was initially impressed by the screen size, slimness and how the unit fit snugly in the palm of my hand. It’s also a very slim phone so handling it is really no problem at all.

LOOK. As seen in the contents of the box, the unit already comes with an attached tampered glass and a silicone case which I think was a very thoughtful gesture.

In terms of color, the Oppo A83 only comes in either champagne or black which made me yearn for a little more options but nevertheless, these two choices are still pretty good options.

BUTTONS & JACKS. There are no buttons in the front of the unit while there are 3 buttons located at the sides of the unit (lock & volume buttons) which honestly feel a little bit flimsy and there is also slot for your micro SD card and 2 sim cards. At the bottom of the phone are the speakers, a micro USB 2.0 port and a standard audio jack. (YEY for standard jacks!)

OVERALL. In terms of the look and the feel of the unit, there’s really not much to complain about and if you’re looking for a sleek mobile phone, this is as good as it gets!

TURNING ON THE UNIT.

Again, the unit has a 720×1440 pixel display and a 5.7″ screen which is pretty clear. Based on my initial use of the unit, I noticed that the colors where vivid, allowing me to distinguish smaller details and gradient designs.

CAMERA

Since this is called the “Smart Selfie” phone, I couldn’t let my initial review pass without testing out the selfie camera itself. Now, I forgot to mention above that the phone does come with two cameras in the front which should indicate better selfies but aside from the impressive hardware, it also comes with  A.I. Beauty Technology which based on the video below, is a feature important in capturing the best version of yourself.

Here are a few of the selfies that I took using the selfie camera. Please note that this was done in the evening under florescent lights.

FACIAL RECOGNITION

What got me the most excited about this phone is it’s Facial Recognition feature which was a breeze to set up and even use. As you can see in the video, I had no problems at all setting it up and there were no issues during actual application of this feature.

Over the week that I had the unit with me, I was able to really test it out; figure out what I liked and what I didn’t like about it and try out every feature of the phone which I will be sharing on my user review within the week so if there’s anything you’d like to ask me about the phone, feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

Already convinced? Here’s where you can buy yourself an Oppo unit in Cebu!

  1. I really wanted to switch back again to Android and Oppo was the last cellphone brand I use before I got my IOS. But I am really still after with iPhone’s strict security that’s why I really wanted to stick with it for too long after having my phone snatched years ago. I love that you had a review about this phone. I might change my mind later this year if I really pursue on having great photos. I am really having struggles with my iPhone 6 camera. 🙁
