I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to post these or any sets of photos that I’ve recently done over the year but these photos are waaay overdue.
A good friend on mine, Hub Pacheco and I, decided to meet up in Manila while I was there for my Chicken, Pork, Adobo Christimas party. It was such a relief seeing a familiar face while I was there as I was definitely outside of my comfort zone. Speaking of comfort zones, this shoot was also one of them.
I’m not fond of intimate shoots purely for the reason that it leaves the onlookers with nothing else to look at but myself. When you’re shooting an outfit photo, there are so many things that come into play- I make you look at a beautiful photo with beautiful backdrops and clothes to match. In a shoot like this, it’s just me and I honestly don’t know how I feel about that.
It also doesn’t help that I have gained about 20 lbs since these photos were taken.
But through weight gain and a slow road to self acceptance, I have learned that weight is something you can gain and lose as you please- self love and confidence is something you gain overtime and it’s not something that should come and go like your BMI. So I have always chosen to love myself because I owe myself THAT much and ykw, I do!
Before I learned how to make rice, I learned how to make mashed potatoes- the more important fact, I learned how to cook this in a rice cooker! I still prefer making this in a rice cooker to this day but you can make it in a sauce pan, as well.
Like I said, mashed potatoes is the first “dish” I learned and mastered how to make and today, I can literally make it in my sleep. For my first official recipe post, I am going to share my personal recipe with you and you’ll be disappointed because it’s hardly a recipe more than it is a bunch of ingredients bumped in a pan.
You might be asking yourself, why go through the hassle of making my own mashed potatoes when I can get them from the box? BECAUSE THE ONES IN THE BOX ABSOLUTELY SUCK. And that’s really the only bit of convincing I need to give you.
The best part apart this recipe is that is requires no measurements so you are as free to experiment with it as you want!
Ingredients:
2 large potatoes (peeled and squared)
Salt
Milk/ All Purpose cream
Italian herbs (optional)
How To Cook:
1. In a saucepan/ rice cooker, boil water. As soon as the water begins to boil, throw in your peeled and sliced potatoes and add salt (add a generous amount).
2. Leave potatoes in to soften and occasionally check on them until they’re soft. How to tell if your potatoes are done boiling? If you can stick your fork into multiple cubes with ease, then it’s done.
3. Once your potatoes are soft, take out your saucepan/ pot and drain the water.
4. Add butter, milk/ cream (and Italian seasoning) and mix. Make sure to taste and add whichever to your preference.
5. With a food masher/ fork, mash and mix everything together until you reach the consistency you like.
I started blogging about fashion about 5-6 years ago- it was an unsure time when people didn’t even know what blogging was and having a group wasn’t especially a part of the norm. I fondly remember the day when I was scrolling Google search engines typing Cebu fashion bloggers/ Fashion bloggers in Cebu/ blogging groups about fashion in Cebu and the like when I miraculously chanced upon a group of fashion bloggers located in the city. It’s no surprise that it was among this group that I actually found my place even after being affiliated with other blogging groups. Being a part of the Cebu Fashion Bloggers turned my life and blogging career around for nothing but the best and a couple of days ago, we gathered together to celebrate such a wonderful union!
I can’t remember when I exactly became a part of the family but I remember the feeling- it was nothing short of amazing! It was back when studs, mesh and Jeffrey Campbell heels were in season and the words minimalist and fashion would never be caught dead in the same sentence. I was suddenly submerged around like-minded people who had fashion as a common denominator and compassion, passion and camaraderie as extraordinary add on’s. It was a simpler time back then and though the times and styles have changed, many years later- the love is still the same.
In this group, I’d be a hypocrite if I said I haven’t made my set of mistakes- I’ve lost my identity, I’ve sided with the wrong team, I had my misconceptions and as unguarded and unfiltered as I am, I’ve definitely pissed off a lot of people. That’s just who I am and luckily, I never found myself alone and afraid. My Cebu Fashion Bloggers family has always had my back and has guided me throughout the ups and downs of my career. They’ve helped me find myself, explore my options and helped me break down my walls that I so strongly build and for that, I am and forever will be grateful.
Many of you will notice that our family is small but we are one- we love each other, look out for one another and we try our best to help each other grow. There is no competition among us in fact, we are the first to help each other achieve a look, a vlog, an entry or project that one cannot simply achieve alone. We support each other, give each other insight and we like to spend endless of hours laughing and making joke on FB messenger! HAHA. Yes, we are small and that’s not to say that it’s the best group out there but it is definitely the best one for me.
On our 8th year in the industry, after having conquered our own set of accomplishments, failures, nuisances and what have you- we emerge better than ever. We’ve got so much to look forward to and we cannot wait to show you guys what we’ve got!
Thank you to everyone who’s supported us throughout the years. There are not enough words to express our unfathomable gratitude.
